MINNESOTA'S ANNUAL CARE PROVIDERS CONVENTION

November 15-17, 2010

Minneapolis, MN - This past November WebInterstate Inc attended the annual Care Providers of Minnesota’s Convention and Expo at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis. Innovation and Action was the focus of this year's convention focusing on, "a new decade where long-term care professionals make the commitment to lead with purpose, bringing meaningful and quality-driven experiences to those served."

This event is held to educate members, care providers and students on current and future changes in Long Term Care Facilities (LTC) and how these changes will affect patient care. The convention also houses several different exhibitors who displayed technologies for LTC staff, products to better the living qualities of patients as well as guidance on insurance changes within the industry.

The event also hosts several break-out sessions with varying speakers and topics to educate and inform attendees.

The tone of the convention was set by care-giver awards and recognitions as well as an opening session speech, "A Future of Change-Surviving and Flourishing in Uncharted Waters," given by Steve Shields.

Mr. Shield set the tone of the convention by opening with his speech on how to combat changes affectively in the healthcare industry. Shields had put emphasis that changes can only be addressed appropriately if taken on as a team. Those who make changes on a role by role basis, such as re-defining a DON's role and then addressing janitorial roles, management roles, etc will not work. There must be a vision for change and a plan to move forward as a team. By eliminating these roles definitions all will be striving to the same goal rather than focusing on their individual new responsibilities. He also defined two aspects to address when developing a model for change. The social aspects could be focusing concerns on the residents and how any changes may affect the their lifestyles and atmosphere of the facility itself. The financial aspect could be ensuring that not only the plan profitable, but the funding is addressed appropriately for the action plan. These areas must be addressed simultaneously and structured with physical dates and timelines for success.

The 2010 Care Providers of Minnesota convention and expo is scheduled for November 15-17th at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis, MN. http://www.careproviders.org
