WEBINTERSTATE INC. ATTENDS CARE PROVIDERS OF MN CONVENTION
November 24, 2009
Minneapolis, MN - The 2009 Care Providers of Minnesota’s annual Convention and Expo was held November 16-18th at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis, MN. This year’s themed event, “Minnesota Great,” focused on strategies to overcome challenges that several facilities and companies alike are faced with today.
This annual event is held for members and attendees to discuss current and future changes in Long Term Care Facilities (LTC) and to their patients. The convention housed several different exhibitors who displayed technologies for LTC staff, products to better the living qualities of the LTC facilities’ patients as well as guidance on insurance changes within the industry.
The event also hosted several break-out sessions with topics varying from leadership and keys to success within the workplace, to how to combat the economic recession while still providing quality patient care.
Some session of interest included;
This unique presentation focused on how technologies such as EMR systems can improve patient care while helping facilities manage their office and how it affects marketing and volunteer programs. The session also outlined ways to better patient’s currently living conditions and quality of life though technology enhanced patient’s activities, therapy, and family/friend visits.
Speaker Jan Garard, Quality Improvement Coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Nursing Facility Rates and Policy Division, concentrated on the cultural changes within facilities from past to present day. Speaking to previous life experiences as a registered nurse at several different LTC facilities, Jan explained how staff seemed more of “task doers” rather than care providers. Today, those LTC facilities who have scored higher on the Nursing Home Resident Quality of Life Satisfaction Survey found that the staff was more accommodating to residence’s quality of life by offering choices and celebrating cultural differences.
